There are many excellent golf courses on the Big Island. There are several prestigious tournaments played on the Big Island each year. For example, the Mauna Lani is the home of the Senior Skins Tournament.
The closest course is Kona Country Club. It is approximately 3 miles from Alii Hale. It has 36 holes. It is challenging. The Owners like the view and the ocean lava rock "blow hole" on this course.
The next closest course is Makalei Hawaii Golf Course. It is approximately 10 miles from Alii Hale on the side of Hualalai Mountain. The views are great!
Usually, the best buy in golf is an afternoon tee time at the Waikoloa Village Golf Club. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. It is open to the public. The Owners have golfed there many times and highly recommend it. It is approximately 30 miles from Alii Hale.
There are many golf courses in the Kohala Resort area (approximately 40 miles), including the Mauna Kea, which is excellent. These courses tend to be quite expensive, but fun.
If you want a short overnight trip or long day trip, try golfing at Sea Mountain Golf Course. The price is usually very reasonable. Golf can be packaged together with an overnight stay. Sea Mountain at Punalu'u (South Point area) is approximately 100 miles south of Alii Hale. |
