Lyman's

Lyman's is not really a beach; however, it is a great place to watch boogie boarding and surfing.  The parking is terrible.  It is about a mile from Alii Hale and a wonderful walk.

Kona State Park (approximately 8 miles)

Part of a new television series was filmed here.  The road in is rough, but does not require a four wheel drive vehicle.  The waves are for advanced swimmers.  One must walk a distance to the beach, but it is a good outing.  There are picnic facilities.

Hapuna Beach State Park (approximately 30 miles north)

This is a great body surfing/boggie boarding beach.  It is a white sand beach.  This is a local favorite.  The picnic facilities are great.  There are outdoor showers and restrooms.  Turn off the Queen K Highway at the Hapuna Beach sign.

Anaeho'omalu Bay (approximately 25 miles north)

This beach is located behind the Royal Waikoloan Hotel in Waikoloa.  Turn off the Queen K Highway at Waikoloa (not Waikoloa Village).  The Royal Waikoloan is the first hotel on the makai (ocean) side of the street.  Parking is free.  Follow the path from the hotel.  Get there early to claim a lounge chaise.  The hotel allows non-hotel guests to use their lounge chaises on the beach.
