Things To Do

The Alii Gardens Marketplace (5 blocks from Alii Hale on Alii Drive)

The Alii Gardens Marketplace, which is a farmer's style marketplace, is approximately 5 blocks to the north of Alii Hale on Alii Drive.  This is a pleasant walk.  It is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Vendors gather here to sell their wares.  Usually, there are fresh fruits and vegetables, macadamia nuts, flowers, arts and crafts, and more for sale.  The number of vendors varies.

The Oldest Christian Church on the Big Island (2 blocks south of Alii Hale)

Hale Halawai O Holualoa Congregational Church, the oldest Christian Church on the island, is a short distance beyond the public beach access.  The church people are very friendly. Its grounds are small, but the setting is lovely.  The grounds are open to the public.  It is a wonderful place to sit in the sun and read or look at sea creatures in the lava rock tidal pools.  Sometimes, one can watch Hawaiian fishermen throwing nets to catch fish.  The sunsets here are beautiful.
